I need your help! I will try and keep this as short as possible, but please bear with me as I am pretty pissed right now. First my problem: I just paid for an info product on Internet Marketing and it SUCKED! Seriously, it was awful. Why did I buy it?: I make good money from Internet marketing, in fact, I make a 6 figure income and had a top 25,000 marketing blog, but NOBODY knows everything! There are always areas I am keen to brush up on, and even hearing something you already know can inspire ideas or cement knowledge. Also, there has been a lot of hype for this product recently, so I was curious to see if it lived up to the hype. My Dilemma: Here is that BIG issue... do I name and shame this product? Should I write a review? Should I publish my thoughts, or post them via email? 12 months ago I would have had no issue with naming and shaming, but these days you have to be careful. What should I do? What would you do? I don't want anyone to waste their money on this, so I really am tempted to publish a review. On a sidenote, you may be thinking... but Dean, all info products, ebooks, videos etc are utter crap and scams! I agree that a large % fit that criteria, but there is some really valuable stuff out there. Your feedback would be greatfully appreciated. Dean
Actually most of them do suck, so It might not be "news" to anyone, but hey I say of course If you feel you where ripped off, please let the rest of the world know so that they don't commit the same mistakes.
I couldn't care less about the money I lost! I do this for research. But this one was sooooo bad, that I just felt I had to shout it from the rooftops. Also, I am talking about a fairly popular product. It was pocket change to me, but for some people it may be a decent amount of cash. By the way... I know some of the biggest names in marketing, and ALL OF THEM buy tons of info products. There is at least one bit of valuable in them, even if it is just what NOT to do.
Dean, Basically it's NOT a good idea to name and shame. The reason for that is, that it's almost always based on emotions . You're pissed of and that's a bad moment to write anything. One day, coming from an unexpected source, that will turn against you. I'm not going to argue about the product you're talking about, but there can be many reasons for your disgruntlement. One thing that comes in mind is that you are an experienced marketer, while the product may be more geared towards newbies (just an example). There's nothing wrong writing a good review, even if it pans the product, as long as it is based on facts and personal experience. In that case, the review would be valuable to anyone. Just my 2 cts. Oh, and think about your heart. These things aren't worth your agitation. It happens to all of us once in a while, but there are far more important things in life to be worried about. Hey, have a nice day Dean. Make someone laugh! Case
Thanks for your thoughts thus far. I think that the fact that I already knew all the info in the vids was an issue, but a lot of it was also vague and incorrect. I won't make any rash decisions. Dean
I think writing a review would be a good thing - other people would like to know about it and whether it's worth buying. If you just state clearly what you found the problems with it to be, and why, I can't see why that should be a problem. Surely we haven't got to the point where only favourable reviews will be published, for fear of the comeback :-(
Do tell, I think it would benefit everyone. Please let the community know of such a scam so we dont make the same mistake
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I think it is important I don't make a quick decision, so I will have a think and post any review on this thread, and HERE Any further feedback would be great
It's best to wait when writing any kind of review. Anger can taint a review and people can see that. It's good that you're waiting.
If the product just contained things that you already know - ask for a refund. IF you don't get it, post a review. IF, on the other hand, the product is just total rubbish and would be of no use to anyone, then you may well be doing a lot of inexperienced marketers a big favour if you do write a review. Far too many "reviews" on the internet are just pitches for products the "reviewer" hasn't even seen, done for the sole purpose of making affiliate sales. If you post an honest review, you will earn a lot of trust and credibility. Just make sure to keep all hint of emotion and anger out of the review. If the product is poor, just explain why in clear, concise terms. That will be enough.
It is as above. I have been given a platform at Streetlessons.com by a friend, so if I do post the review there, then it would certainly get the message across. Any review would of course be clear and concise. Dean
Always name and shame as long as it's true. That's how idiots get exposed so other people don't lose money or waste their time. There's no reason not to write bad reviews of things that deserve it. You should also write good reviews for products that are actually good.
Of course you should name it so that others don't make the same mistake. However it's widely known that most of these products are just crap.
If it was as bad as you make it sound, it's your duty as a good person to write a review . You said it's even a good chunk of change too, I just hope it wasn't more than $100.
Personally I would say write an honest review. As others have said, it would certainly help those who are at the beginning of the journey especially if you state why the book isn't helpful. I would try and think of it like this - "I were were new to internet marketing and knew absolutely nothing about it and had never read another ebook - how would this book help (or hinder me)? What do you think would happen if someone knew followed the advice in this book? I think that would be a valuable contribution to people.
Please do write a review, I wouldn't want to buy a crappy ebook just because 'you' didn't want to be rude by writing a bad review. Save the rest of us from buying a bad ebook, if it's bad we all deserve to know.
You should write your review and let others know what you think about this product. It is your opinion.
I would just drop it. I am a bit confused on some things you say: "I make good money from Internet marketing, in fact, I make a 6 figure income and had a top 25,000 marketing blog, but NOBODY knows everything! " With the thought of "nobody knows everything" maybe you just happen to know more than the person you bought it from. "I think that the fact that I already knew all the info in the vids was an issue, but a lot of it was also vague and incorrect." You say yourself you knew all the info in the vids. Maybe others that buy it won't know all the info in the vids. Maybe vague to you is clear to others, same with "incorrect" if it was blatent errors that is different. "Also, there has been a lot of hype for this product recently," Alot of hype but no bad press apparently or else you probably would not of bought it. I'm assuming you didn't make the first purchase.
