Should I look into using Conversion Optimizer?

I saw that I was eligible to use this, and wasn't real sure if this is something I should be messing with.

I tried it once and all it suggested was to capitalise one of the letters in my display URL.

By all means try, but you don't have to go ahead with what Google suggest.

It was a complete waste of time when I tried it, but maybe I was just doing things correctly.

Try it, and see what it suggests...

Hang on - that's campaign optimizer.

Conversion Optimizer is the tool that allows you to set a cost per acquisition, and Google adjusts your bids accordingly.

It's useless, and I'd strongly advise that you ignore it!

Good point, I misread it too.

This goes against all of the advice that I have read on SEM and SEO blogs. It seems that the blogosphere is loving this feature. Why do you suggest that we ignore it?

    I'm eating my words...

Prior to using the Conversion Optimizer, I was doing well with an average CPC of about $2. I started the optimizer this morning. I made the mistake of going to lunch and when I came back, my average CPC was $8 and I had spent my daily budget with zero conversions.

I retract my previous post and will stick to manually handling my CPC from now on. Sure, the "experts" say to give it a few weeks so that it can correct itself, but there is no way that I can afford a few weeks of $8 per click. Clearly the optimizer is not good for my type of campaign, which is low traffic, high priced merchandise.
