should I link out to other sites?

Okay, I've got one main site which is an offline business but now selling online. Due to the type of product its very hard to get organic links.

To combat this, I've created a few completely seperate websites - all on different hosts, different whois etc.

I've filled all of these sites with good quality (and unique) content. They dont have any adsense or junk on them. They are similar topics to my main site.

I'm going to put links in these sites and point them towards my main site. Right now these sites dont have any outgoing links at all - just links to other internal content pages.

I am not bothered about pr or traffic or anything else to the newer sites, the only thing I care about is lifting my main site up the SE rankings.

On these new sites I have created, should I link out to my main site only? I was of the opinion that I should also link out to a couple of high PR or authority sites in the same niche, but a couple of people have said to me I should only be linking to my own main site. Does anyone have any feedback or opinions on this?

    Thanks

I don't think your "big site" is going to get good seo if the "little sites" aren't developed.

As long as the links have high pr and aren't spammed full of links it will help, I don't see why it wouldn't

Why link to other people? You want to narrow people's options to help steer more of them to your $$ site.

That whole idea of linking to 'useful' sites in one's industry is bad business: people will just go to those sites and ignore yours - exactly the opposite of what you want them to do.

Try to get as much as possible one way incoming links to your main site. Links from your site to other sites will not help you, it can hurt your site if you have many links (without ref="nofollow").

On the other sites you can place attractive add which will forward traffic to your main site.

makings sites and linking them to your main site is a good long term solution....you need to come up with a plan to attract links

The micro-sites are a great idea and will definately help you as you develop your main site's link-profile.

Keep developing them with unique content and links to your main site.

For ecommerce, I'll also sometimes do micro-sites that have 'products' --like a mini ecommerce site--- that when clicked "add to cart" it throws users to the main site's shopping cart.

Okay, I should been a little clearer I think.

I'm not linking out at all from my main site - its a site selling an actual product so theres no way I'm sending potential customers away.

I will develop these new sites, and build links etc. i was just wondering if they would be seen as more trusted if they linked out to other authority/trusted sites in the same niche, rather than only linking out to my main site.

    Thanks
