My first website has been setup to sell products as an affiliate. I have unrelated pages on Real Estate, Home Business, Satellite TV, Loans, etc. Basically my first attempt at trying to make a buck while I learn HTML, CCS, etc. My home page is basically just a directory that ties these individual pages together. When people come to my site via the search engines they normally land on one of my affiliate pages (real estate, music, loans, etc.). Rarely does anyone hit my homepage. If I begin a link exchange campaign, should I have other websites link to my page that relates to their site (ie; a loans site linking directly to my loans page, a real estate site linking directly to my real estate page, etc)? ... OR, should every site link to my home page? Does every page in ones website benefit from external links to the homepage? I would appreciate any thoughts or advice that anyone might have time to share. Thank you. John.
I would personally start to deep link them to the themed sections the links pertain to. ie if real estate, link it to your real estate page. Once you have acquired good deep links then start to scatter those anchor text to the homepage.
Okay, here are my thoughts and advice for what it's worth. I would not mix up a lot of unrelated products and services on a home page. Your home page should be on one theme, such as Real Estate or Home Business or Satellite TV etc. Even then, you will want to have a unique theme and content so you stand out from others who are marketing similiar products. Mixing up different products and services on your home page will only confuse the search engines because they will not know where to catagorize your sight. Home pages generally get most of the visitors from the search engines, although a hot interior page can and will get more visitors than the home site. So you really want to have your home site optimized and get lots of visitors from the searches. These are just observations I have made as an affiliate myself cheers
What I've learned from my first attempts (2) now is not do a site about somewhat-related things, much less unrelated anything. My next sites are going to be pin-point focused. My outdoors site bit off a ton, and it will take, I'm afraid, a reaaallllllllyy long time to build relevancy, given its breadth.
