i think joining really does help you become disciplined, but i know couple people that went in for the same reason and all absolutely HATE IT. i suggest thinking it over for a while with family before you decide whether or not you want to. and besides are you sure you want to go in around this time? just my opinion. goodluck!

i agree with webmaster. drinkk a beeer. cheers!

I would say don't do this as I'm pretty sure that you can find another way to discipline yourself

But it looks like your choice is already done anyway :(

I joined the army national guard about 9 months ago and it's been cool so far. Everything I expected

Personally, I wouldn't ever wanna join the army. If you need disipline, why not get a business mentor/coach?

If you like to travel get yourself a backpack and a round the world ticket, thats a whole lot safer too.

I act as a business coach for about a dozen people and I can tell you that nothing a business coach can do for you will be close to the learning that you earn for yourself in the armed forces.

That was a way way way better slogan than this "Army of One" crap.

Our military gets better every year -- except for the damned slogan.

In Australia we have the army reserve however I am not sure whether there is anything like that in the US. Maybe you just need motivation. You could try attending lectures or training groups where you learn about this type of stuff. Start to get some discipline into your life and the only person that can help you if yourself. For example, wake up at 5am tomorrow morning and go for an 1/2 hour run. You need to just keep on setting yourself small goals such as this one.

The army is good because you kind of hang out, drink a lot and get paid. No student loans and you can even go to school for free when you finish. You will also have an aventure of a lifetime.

I think the discipline you need comes from inside. Seriously take up an intense martial art and you will find a new self worth/ self discipline.

No regrets for my service to this wonderful country. 8 years and an around the world tour of places that I have been to that I know damn well I would not have gone to if I stayed in NYC as a wild ass teenager.

Wow I thought this topic was dead, good to see it resurface! lol
Anyway, I did not join the Army.
I started training MMA ( Mixed Martial Arts) and I can tell you that the beatings you receive and give are a great motivator to bettering one's self.
It's been a good experience, I figured out what I wanted to do when it comes to all my businesses and I have prospered alot since I first made this post.

Thanks to all the people that took the time to post and voice their opinion!

I think it seems like everything had been said already. Just think about the potential consequences by joining the army. Almost everybody has friend or a family member who came home in a coffin.

Have you talked to a recruiter yet? The army has some great educational benefits and will keep you on track.

Yeah and to be honest, I have learnt to keep myself on track. They offer all this money to join and in the long run I will loose alot of money and simply give away five years of my life for a cause that I simply don't agree with (not trying to offend or belittle anyone's beliefs!) Its just my personal opinion.

You think to much like a civilian :D The military is a great place to be in a recession and you get to 'play' with millions of dollars of equipment.
