Should I host my own?

I really dont know much about hosting my own sites but was wondering if I should.

I have 2 computers 1 of them is brand new and I think could handle hosting my sites. Would I be able to do this on a normal computer with a cable connection? Would I need any other equipment? Any information would be helpful.

    Thanks

Not to be rude (really!), but if you do not know anything about hosting: dont start hosting your own sites.

I could give you a list of things to watch out for, but if you really don't have a clue about it it will be pointless.

(just get a $9.99 shared hosting thingie somewhere, saves you a whole lot of shit/stress/time)

Chances are you ISP won't let you use your connection for hosting anyways.
If you are serious about your website start off with a shared hosting plan some where.

It's not something you want to get into with a home cable connection. Shared hosting is so cheap there is no reason to do it. asmallorange.com has unlimited domain plans starting at $2.50 a month. Besides monitoring the system uptime, security, and backups, tech support- it's their business so they know what they are doing. I am not affilated with them, and there are many other hosts that can offer you similar low-priced plans if cost if a primary concern.

    What they said! ^

Just spend the few dollars a month and save tons of stress, time, and hassle. Plus it will be way way faster and more efficent to host on something made for hosting sites.

If your interested then 1st you need to go and look at the TOS and AUP of your ISP. Then, if its allowed, goto http://www.dslwebserver.com/ . They have some great info on hosting your own server at home.
