if you have shared hsoting with them these are your limit

    a) Use 25% or more of system resources for longer then 90 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, FTP, PHP, HTTP, etc.

check the hostgator for their Terms of Service

if you own a dedicated server it will be good to host with your own hosting. otherwise if the traffic goes it will be difficult to maintain that in a shared hosting so tinypic , photobucket etc sites are better option in that case

if you don't login to photobucket 90day, your acc will be deactive :-S . Try to upload image into your host and backup it in your PC or Laptop.
Free acc in photobucket have 5GB BW only, It doesn't enough if your site grow up.

If you want a premium account, flickr is better than photobucket. I know some NY fashion photographers put thousands of their UHQ photos and HD videos in flickr pro acct.

As you are getting started with your web site I do not think you should be in a hurry and you do not need such big web hosting account at the first time
I recommend you start with the cheapest and the smallest solution.

    Yes you should use it.
But in the same time you should host the picture at other site too such as imageshack coz you don't know when the photo bucket will be offline.
