Should i go with a or ä

I have a gallery with pictures of old cars and buses. The name of the car contains the letter ä. Lots of people write the name of the car with an A. What should i do in terms of SEO. Go for A or ä or both?

If you can go for both, do so. If not, do some keyword research to find out which one people actually search for more ... I'd guess that it'd be with a plan 'a' rather than ä.

I will keep plain 'a' in URL and title. I will use ä within article body / description.

Just stick with a if it's the most searched for version. Are you sure Google does not auto-correct one version to another?

It doesn't make a huge difference to be honest - Google is smart enough to know the average user isn't going to type the "ä" - it's not standard on most peoples keyboards.

My opinion differs a little. I would do some research to see if the umlaut is synonymous with a regular "a" on the internet. It likely is, especially for product names, and in that case I would aim to represent the product as it is natively represented. You could, to make up for it, have a little note saying "commonly written as *******" or something like that. Similar to jiteendrag, you could use the original in the title tag, and the alternate in the meta description.

    Good luck,
    -E

I would only use "a" for URL and titles.
As for content, still "a", but "ä" would work as well.
