Should I go Joomla, Wordpress or Something else

    I'm in the throws of starting a retro game site. I want the site to have reviews of old sites, but I also want general chit-chat and other stuff (such as a forum) on there in the future.

    As far as the game reviews go, I want to be able to classify them in a hierarchy so they are organized. Such as:

    Games --> Nintendo --> Sports

    Just not sure which tool to start with on this one. Any advice appreciated.

    Joomla is a CMS, Wordpress is for a blog.

    Joomla is more suited for your needs

    Joomla might be more suited to what you want, BUT Joomla's Section->Category structure does not allow subcategories. So using your example:

    Games --> Nintendo --> Sports

    Would not be possible. You would have to start with a section called Nintendo, and categories so like this:

    Nintendo --> Sports
    --> Arcade

    One of those quirks of Joomla that they have on the list of changes to come.

    Just so you are aware of this before getting to far into it.

    You might take a look at www.opensourcecms.com for comparisons of the various CMS options. Personally, I'm a fan of textpattern right now, but I'm still getting into it so take that with a grain of salt.

    I was using Mambo before I switched to Joomla and it didn't have any
    subcategories.

    Both Mambo and Joomla have problems with sub categories. Search on the Joomla forums for subcategories and you can see some of the options people suggest. You might just have to rethink your structure which might offer a better structure. Just a thought.

    There is a way to make it work

    I know (because i have use it) there's a simple hack for mambo/joomla that release the categories attachetment to sections.
    that way you gould make gategories within categories at will.
