Fedora isn't really that good for a server in my opinion, it focuses on having the latest versions of things, which may not be quite stable. You should go for a stable Ubuntu version.

Instead of Fedora go with CentOS, instead of Ubuntu choose GENTOO, GENTOO over CentOS.

Gentoo is probably not the best distro to suggest to someone that has to ask what distro they should use on a server.

I would recommend going with CentOS instead of Fedora.

Nope, for the structural problem, you won't be able to. You need to do full OS reload to migrate your distro. Though, i strongly recommend you to use Redhat enterprise linux or CentOS as these two are mostly suitable for a Web & Database server. These kernels run most smoothly for these types of servers.

I would also recomend CentOS or RedHat for its stability and support.

I would recommend centos over the two you mentioned. The reason being is that it is more secure and reliable.

fedora and ubuntu are more of less desktop oriented versions. if you want to run a server, the best is centos or debian.

If you must choose between Fedora and Ubuntu, then I would go with Fedora. Ubuntu is too bloated for server use in imho. On the other hand, Fedora uses newer and sometimes unstable versions of kernel so it might not be the best choice either.

Most webhosting companies offer also other (much better) alternatives like:
    1) CentOS (based on older Red Hat versions thus very reliable and stable),
    2) Red Hat (this is for additional fee probably),
    3) Gentoo (possibly the most customizable from all... you can practically compile your own kernel for your own server specs - tends to be the best from a performance standpoint but on the other hand it is usually harder to maintain and when something goes wrong it's more difficult to figure it out and fix it),
    4) Debian (I've heard that it is the most stable linux distro but I'm not an expert so hard to say),
    5) and others

I would try to choose between CentOS (or Red Hat), Gentoo and Debian - these three are probably the most appropriate for servers and are the most used, too.

Fedora and Ubuntu are used in servers very rarely.

CentOS is great but so is Ubuntu Server Edition.
I think Ubuntu is definitely a great platform so I would definitely recommend either or.

Ubuntu and debian are great for stability. I've always had them as my os of choice. Plus very easy to manage. Fedora meh... it's ok i guess.
