If I'm showing 500 co-op ads on pages that are cached by Google and in the network, should I expect 500 backlinks in return? I have ads showing on a PR4 website which may be around average for the network. If it is, then I believe I should expect 500 backlinks. Even if the average PR for the network was 5 or 6, I should still expect a few hundred backlinks. I know that only a small sample of backlinks are displayed by Google but perhaps MSN or Yahoo would show the links? This question is important to me because if I truly picked up 500 backlinks quickly it's possible Google would penalise my site. However, I'm seeing currently 8 backlinks in Yahoo rather than 500. So do you get much fewer backlinks than the links you give to the network?
I run 5 ad's per page on a site of around 150 content pages with a PR of 4. Over the last few months I have seen over 2500 new bl's in MSN and Y! and over 300 new ones in GG.....without being penalized
I've seen half a dozen instances of sites which were penalized for too many links too fast. Al of them had this happen to them after they reached 160,000+ links. With just a few hundred I wouldn't worry at all. Also, there's many sites which have close to 200,000 newly gained BLs in yahoo (and more), and are still going strong in the serps.
Yes, pretty much so indeed. And you are right in taking the PR into account as well. Because of the rotation and slow updating you can even get more than you give at times. I wouldn't worry about getting 500 links too quickly since it;s a failry low number. But if you're really worried you can always link back to your referral url for a while or to any other site (like mine ) to spread the load a bit.
Thanks for those replies - I'm reassured and looking forward to seeing more of those backlinks appearing.
