    Hello,

I have a site, it has been indexed hundreds of pages by Google.

Now I want to rebuild the site and indexed pages will be deleted.

Should I delete my whole site from Google before my rebuilding by robots.txt?

If I don't delete, there will be hundreds of 404 errors. (I can't keep these pages on the site)

    Thanks a lot !

No its actually a good thing to have 404 errors.

Just customise your 404 page with something telling your visitors about the changes and that they will be redirected to the new homepage in 5 seconds etc..

But its a shame to loose indexed pages in Google so you might want to consider trying to rebuild the new site with the same linking structure..

    Good luck

    Thanks for your reply.

Will it affect search engine position if the site has too many 404 errors?

If I delete the site from Google, then Google will reindex the site without 404 errors.

    Thanks!

Why not 301 redirect the pages you want to delete to other relevant pages on your site? I've never heard of 404 errors affecting position -
