for my keyword 'free image hosting'

    im ranked 20 on msn
    212 on yahoo
    170 on google

from what i am saying, should i just continue to lay into a big SEO campaign

or am i just wasting my time with this site?

there is so much competition for that keyword

My advice would be to think of other search words/ phrases that people might be looking for each 'picture' rather than 'image'. 20 on MSN is pretty good.

There are over 100 different searches every day for images in many terms.
LIke "texas image hosting" and so forth.
Best strategy I was taught is to go with the searches that use terms that fit my site that are searched in the lower 50 to 100 of search terms.

Those types of searches are better niched and bring better results that trying to get a broad search term that is used more often.

This is what adword users do...instead of bidding on lawyer, they bid on a term like "Iowa bankruptcy lawyer", etc.

No you should not give up. Don't be a fish ;). It will take time to beat the competitors. Just go through your competitor websites and find out the differences.

I would agree with iowadawg, concentrate on not so generic keywords, you'll get results faster and probably provide you with more quality traffic, I have a website that ranks very well on msn and Yahoo for a similar keyword "free linux hosting" and "free cpanel hosting" Google usually takes more time...

    Hi Imgster -

If you have $4000 to spend - here's what you should do. Contact me through www.thelouisvilleseo.com - pay me $150 an hour to talk to you about your site.

Joking - but seriously - take the money - find somebody that actually knows what they are doing, then pay them to consult you and teach you, otherwise, get misinformation and hope your site grows in popularity naturally.

www.thelouisvilleseo.com/search-engine-marketing/ is another resource besides this forum. I will have SEO videos in the coming weeks.

Note to admins/readers: I am not spamming. I left another SEO forum [seo workshop] because they were being jerks about it... I am giving a url to my site that I teach SEO on for free. If you don't like it, don't go there. Period. Thanks!

And to clear things up... you can get on the first page for free. Thinking things through is a big part. You've got a good site. I would create a more unique logo - make the site look "fun" - don't keep the template feel.

It will make a difference and you'll be successful if you have the design and identity you want... you do want to look professional, right?

It's not impossible to get top positioning for the keyword "free image hosting" - but you really need to work on your site first. I see some major problems with your site if you are trying to get listed for that keyword.

I'd stick with your imgster.com domain and ditch the one you just bought. It doesn't matter if keywords are in your domain are not, despite what popular seo'ers believe. Just look at the top sites under 'free image hosting" when you search google. It looks like there is only one in the top 10 with the keyphrase "image hosting" in it. It will also take you longer to get any new domain you indexed by google and you would just be throwing away what you have already built up with imgster.com.

I could go on but if you are interested in seo services please pm me.

    Regards,

    Jeff
