Should I Code This New Design Or Throw It In The Dumpster?

Hi, I'm just finishing up this new design I'd like to code for Wordpress but I need your opinions on the good, bad, and ugly first.

My intention is to drop it as a free Wordpress theme but then it better be well anticipated for that to happen.

    Here is a glimpse:

I'd code it, you could probably get some cash for it from someone (try the templates section on here).

    :)

As a free template the only thing i'd say I don't like is the footer, it just doesn't seem to flow with the whole layout, I think it's the colours that just don't fit in.

You're right, that bloody footer wasn't worth my time. When colors elude you it's best to just keep it black.

Same as others, i don't like the footer. It's not blend with the other colour of the web. I suggest you can use the same colour as above....or like jim_rei_mer said, black. But i prefer, blue.

    Yes it is.

A few of the elements will be reworked, the footer for one, and then I'll send you the PSD.

After which I'll design a few more styles to fit the same layout dimensions and BAM, we've got thrust!

Let's see where it can take us. The full view is very exciting so I'm confident it'll download well. ;)

I'd actually create some white space between the main and right columns, and move the RSS feed's right edge over a bit to ensure that it and the right edge of the side column matches up (like it does now), but yeah, it's worth coding. You might even be able to sell it too - it looks that good.

Okay, now it's been reworked and I'm thinking it's getting closer to production. In this version I've reworked:

RSS section - to include how to subscribe and sharpened the blue colors

Footer - from red to dark and removed dividers
    - included footer links and copyright

Comments - made the link color match the left handed content area

So, now what do you think?

Help me perfect this baby before coding and dropping it free for the Wordpress community.

As the first guy said. If you do not really like the design, I would still code it and put it up for sale and see if you could get some extra cash for it.

How much do you think I'd get for this design as a fully coded Wordpress theme?

I'm curious now at it's market value? MOney's starting to talk to me. You know? :)

You could probably sell it for $25-50 (per license) or so and then offer customization services at your regular rate on top of that for those who want to extend it further.

Mind you, I'm one of those guys. The kind that designs but doesn't code. So the thing about getting it coded is that I'll need someone to do it for me.

Dear God, find me a site that brings designer and coder together in harmony. Working together, making the dollar together, a partnership made in heaven.

PM me then. I have a free WordPress Theme framework that's been under development for a year that I'm about to release to the public as a free download (it's going to blow the Kubrick, K2 and other "optimized" Themes out of the water, which isn't hard to do because they suck accessibility, SEO and usability wise anyway).

To be honest I really think it's hard to push a Wordpress Theme for $25-$30, but it's a nice design and worth coding. Also as far as I can remember it's against TOS to label Adsense links as "Related Links". Also the alternate comment colour (the dark grey one) is a bit too bold for me I reckon the lightest grey possible would look better but thats only my opinion.
Also I still think a bit more could be done with the footer i'm not quite sure what! I think the problem here is that you have the footer background spanning 100%, but the footer content itself is set to the same width of the page, also it could may be sectioned although i'm not too sure!!

    Yeah it is :)

"Our Sponsors" is okay, but "related links", or any insentive to click them isn't.

What do you mean hard to push for $25 - $30? For just one license of many or for one time exclusive ownership? What about for a limited inventory of licenses? Say 15 licenses and done. Another license of that theme never again to be sold.

On another note about everything else you pointed out.

    • The Adsense "related links" heading.
    • The dark comment color.
    • The footer spanning across.
    • As well as the footer missing something.

All those items will be reworked. I'll show you the changes here shortly :)

And one more thing. To anyone wondering about Dans new theme which is going to blaze the WP design community, it's awesome and I've only scratched the surface! :D

It's more like a Theme framework than anything - a Theme for making other Themes. :)

Dan, I'm really getting into this theme "framework". I've learned more about WP, CSS, and how to design for it in two hours then I ever have. Seriously. Everything seems so intuitive.

Anyways, Dan could you tell me what programs you use to edit the css and things. Or do you just do it notebook knowing what the results will be in your head?
