Ok here is the situation, I started my webmaster blog www.contentpays.info roughly four months back and now I have gone ahead and registered www.contentpays.net (.com was unavailable from the starting) and now I am wondering whether to redirect .net domain to .info one or change the domain on the hosting account to .net and redirect the .info to it.
Not concerned with the worth of the domain cause I intend to keep it, however what I was wondering whether I should change my blog's TLD to the .net one or simply redirect the .net to .info cause its already getting some traffic from search engines and might gain some pr as well on this update.
If you change the name you are going to lose any PR, lose your back links & lose your search engine rankings. Better to redirect the .net to the .info ....IMHO. If it's a new site with no backlinks and no presence then there is no harm in going the opposite route.
That is the problem, I am expecting PR 3 for the .info domain and it has managed to garner a few back links as well. On the other hand I feel the .net is much more brandable since people associate .info with spammers.
Definitely do a redirect. The redirect should help take care of the PR issue, as it'll end up sorta taking the .info's PR. That's how fake PR stats are done for selling domains, only in this case it would be legit.
The one problem I see is that when you redirect is that when they type in the .net and it redirects, the ,info still pops up. I am always a little weary of redirects. As far as wish way to do it, it depends on what you are trying to do with the site. If you are planning to keep it as you said and are not looking to sell links. In the long run, you would be better with the .info directed to the .net, in my opinion, it is worth it to ride out the next update and build up the .net. If you after decide to sell, it will be worth more than .info. You can see when GoDaddy sells .infos for $.99 that they hold much lower value. If you are looking to sell links right away than the other way is better because you will not lose the PR from the .info
Good pointers, i guess will wait for a few days just to see what kind of PR .info domain gets and after the PR update is over, I will use the .net tld and do a 301 redirect on the .info one. Already bought it
