Most people use .com. If you use .net you risk losing traffic. And if the .com site offers the same content as yours, then you could be thought of as a copycat or duplicate site.
Yes. .com rules. Make an offer for the domains for some reasonable price and get the domain. If the keywords are popular sell the .net version also for some good price.
I have a .net that does great with SERP. Some #1 in google. As long as you handle your SEO properly you will be fine. Make some money then buy the .com before the owner realizes how bad you really want it.
.net should do fine. Look at problogger.net.... he bought problogger.com later. Most of these companies register the domains attach insane price tags to it and later drop them when they see no one wants it. if you are that desperate back order the .com and then develop your .net.
Remember that once you get a .NET and you wish to buy the .COM later then you will have to shell out a lot more than 2800$...coz the .COM value will rise tremendously after u buy a .NET
In Todaynic, the price for .net, .org, .com are the same, $6.52, let me say, believe it or not, just contact me.
They should be cheaper at some other registrar. I recommend saving more the .com, its really worth the seo ranking
To build a brand name .com is much better. People do not need to remember the extension and they only need to remember the name of the website ( say ABC Studios or even DP). I will suggest for a dot com if you want company branding more. Dont think to buy that .com which is expensive because you will never reach that. nor the owner will let it expire. Go for some similar name and plan to how to make it memorable. Good Luck.
You need to make your domain name memorable. Doesn't matter that COM or other. But that is recommended to start with COM even if that domain name extension is overcrowded
.NET is fine if you are talking about a good term. If its just so-so and not searched for much, keep looking. The Ad Sense keyword tool will help give you an idea as to whether your 'dream name' is really that as in, does anyone search for your 'dream name'. I am new, so I seeming can't submit a link (why??!) but you'll find this tool easily. ALSO, domainers often list ridiculous prices for their names. You may want to see what they would really take by contacting them though the domain who-is data or making an offer via Sedo.com (or someone else). Sometimes they know that they are ridiculous. I have bought domains for almost nothing when they expired and noticed that they were listed at Sedo for a 'non-negotiable' $6,000 yet they let them expire rather than paying the $8.00 renewal to renew their '$6,000' name. If the domain is only taken in .COM and nothing else, I doubt that its worth is $2,588 unless there is traffic from a previous use.
.com is the most widely used and by far the most popular. If I told the average user my sites name without the extension they would probably type .com and wouldn't even think to ask. Also .com relates to business/commercial related sites whereas .net refers to tech related sites. My conclusion is that .net can still work because ultimately its up to you and your marketing that will decide where it goes. Personally I would just search for another .com name.
Just talk them down to a more comfortable sum. I like to offer about 10% of asking value and move up to maybe 20% max.
