Should I buy .net when .com is too expensive.

    Here is the deal:

I have the "perfect name" for my next website. Unfortunately, the .com domain for this name is "for sale" at $2,588. This is a bit more than I can afford right now.

Instead, I purchased the .net version for less than $10. Now I'm at a crossroads.

Do I use the .net and have my perfect name, or do I settle for a different name with a .com extension?

Please help...I can't decide. I really hate these companies that buy up thousands of domains just to turn around and sell them.

You can go with the .net version. It is up to you how you apply onpage and offpage SEO to your website to gain traffic, conversions and ultimately establish a successful presence online.

If you are keen to stick to dot com's, then go for a keyword rich name. But by all means, .net would still be a good choice.

Go for another .com extension coz it pointless to use .net domain since the .com is in sales.
And another point is, if you using .net,people will think that you copy the famous domain name idea.

Alternatively, you can also try the .COM version with " - " instead of using the .NET ... all the best! :)

I'd have thought the .net was ok, just make sure the use you have is 100% different from the .com site.

I wouldn't go for the .net version but instead I'll choose another domain name that's available in its .com extention. You see, that domain name you want to buy might be perfect, but when your site grows big, you'll automatically lose visitors when they accidentally remember "yourdomain.com" instead of your site at .net ;)

The "web" has a general preference for .com right now. You can still be easily ranked with net or org but some visitors might forget where your site is at if it isn't com. I would look into .com alternatives instead of the .net or the $2,800 .com

It depends on your business. For commercial website,.com is still the most popular and best choice. In this situation,
it think it's meaningless for you to use .net instead. It would make no sense at all.If you are providing network
service or things similar to this kind, maybe there is still some scope for you to promote your .net domain.

if you really "enjoy" the domain, just register .net alright it's okay although .com is the first choice,
you see http://envato.com they choose .net for the whole network.

.com is the first domain name for the internet and preferred by the search engine. I recommend you .com

judging by the price, it's for sale at buydomains right? You can get it for about half the price, trust me. Just make an offer an be firm.

I would only get the .net if it was a really generic keyword term (like blackjackets.net) but not if it were a made up or branded term (like jacketpro.net). The .com owner is always going to have a 1up on you, unfortunately.
