I would go with new one.

There is no better way from starting it fresh. Besides you can go a lot cheaper for a domain name if it is yours, than buying it from someone else.

Wish you luck with your site. That is the place where i am at right now. Are you planning to buy just a domain name or the entire hosting package. I am thinking to go with HostGator. Any thoughts about them?

I think it depends on the domain name. If it's a domain name you WANT, then doesn't matter if it's expired or fresh. As long as the price is the same :).

ON THE OTHER HAND. CONSIDER THIS. If you buy an expired domain, it has a history. Google likes Domain Age. If the expired domain's history counts, then you'll already have an older domain that you can play with :)

If you wish to buy a old domain then verify that domain already black listed or not !

That's the risk you take with expired domains. If you like the domain name, check the backlinks.

It depends on your business needs. Buying a new domain is often preferred but if you plan to go with buying old domain then check with its DA and also whether it is not blacklisted.

Why not start from a fresh domain instead? It is less of a hassle.

BOTH expired, and new, may have a history that you are unaware of. I have purchased domains new, not realising that they were in fact used in the past. The problem is that some domains, even unregistered ones, can be permanently banned in google. This means it will not show up in google search, and or, you may be unable to use adsense on these sites.

My advice is this. Pick the name that is most suitable for your business and for your branding. Try to stick to a .com domain. Avoid "-" in the names, and do not try to build a brand on a name that has typing errors.

Once you have a good .com that you are proud of, If everything is good, perhaps add more domains to your collection, such as, if your domain can be spelt differently, try to registered the different spelling variations. If you want to get a new tld, go for it. Some of the new tlds can work well with your domain name, for example "xxxxsolar.com" would be wise to register "xxxx.solar" as well. (this is an example, not links to working sites) But I always recommend owning the .com version first before looking into registering the other tlds.

You should make the decision, if you are to buy a expired domain, here are a few questions:

    * Is the domain catchy, represent your business, not too lengthy ?
    * Does the domain contains any of your target keywords ?
    * Does the domain comes with previous rankings i.e. DA,PA, backlinks etc?
    * Is the price of the domain worth the rankings it already got?
    * Do other TLDs of the domain available for registration? Specially if the domain is NOT a .com

If the answers to the above are mostly positive then i think it's ok to buy an expired domain, otherwise register a new domain.

Not true that Google likes domain age. Expired domains may have been penalized by Google or have bad history associated.

Generally speaking expired, but on occasions I have registered domains which I have sold for about $100 (reg fee was $8). It depends on interest, trend, market, etc...

for safety way! new domain is the most reasonable option! btw, nobody knows that a domain blacklisted or not! most seo tools basically only crap tools! I make exception for majestic though!

The best way is always a new Domain, work out a name that matches what you want and that is available. Not only is it the safest option, but the cheapest too normally. Legacy Domains are usually more expensive and as other have said can have an issue which sees them banned by the search engines
