Should I buy a new domain and point it to a landing page?

I am trying to weigh up whether or not, I should purchase a new domain and point it to a landing page on my site.

I will be creating a course on my site. It will be a large part of what I do and essentially will be a program I want people to be a part of.

I don't want to direct people to mysite.com/course-name

Would it make sense to purchase courseName.com and direct it to that landing page of my site?

Or, should I put the course on a separate site of its own?

The reason I would be against hosting it on a separate site is that I only want to have to do SEO for one domain, ideally.

I already blog on my other site.

    Thanks,
Appreciate any advice that anyone can give.

No need for separate site, the new name can be pointed to the landing page.

See how apple do it with Airport.com

Hope that helps. Ideally try and get a name that already get's direct traffic.

I agree with BsGs.co.uk - there's no need to host the course on a separate website.

    I would personally do this:

"purchase courseName.com and direct it to that landing page of my site"
