I need to populate a huge directory of businesses. Is there a database of businesses i can buy from someone?

Or is there a way to quickly grab business listings from some other website?

There are some yell.com type scraper scripts around....but like BG said, what's the use of a duplicated site?

I agree on the previous posts, create something unique and don't copy.

You could use the Dmoz rdf dump if you comply with their terms. But Britishguy is right, there's no value in duplicate content: you will need to supplement it with listings of your own for it to have any value.

As I understand you are going to build business directory like yellow page. If it's me I'll buy. Then to reduce the duplicate factor, you may change the category name or adding more additional custom fields for each item (link).

But if you're going to build web directory, never buy one. Promote in DP alone can get your web directory busy :)
