I've got a fairly new directory: http://www.linkstumbler.com which is doing fairly well... Recently I got rid of the image verification so that auto submitters can submit to my directory, but is that a good idea or no?
You really won't like auto-submissions. You will be eating spam for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (maybe even 4th meal too ).
That would be a NO on autosubmission. Best case scenario = duplicate content. Worst case scenario = Google says bye-bye.
For some servers (GDI disabled) or some users (specially those behind firewalls or proxies) verification images are not always displayed, reason why many webmasters opt for disabling such function. However by means of another script, or using actually the right one, you can get displayed a verification number which is not an image, just a random number printed on the signup page.
you may receive a lot of crap listings by this. I Would not recommend to allow auto submitters. BTW, Your directory showwing DB Errors during subtting
You may have submitted while I was doing some work (I have a tendency to tear things up ) What exactly do you mean by this? Why would google drop someone over auto submission? After reading all this I don't think I'll allow auto submissions... I'd rather keep everything clean and block the garbage.
