Should I advertise through an Affiliate Program?

    Hello,

I have been searching through all of the threads and what I find for affiliates most often is for people adding affiliates to their websites to generate revenue. I can't seem to find any where people use affiliates to generate traffic to their website.

Are there any good threads somebody can recommend?

    Otherwise, my questions are?

    1) I am trying to build content through gathering ratings for my niche website. Can I use an affiliate program to have my ads placed on sites and pay a fee for each conversion (would be considered submitting a review or registering)?

    2) Do the affiliate programs charge a high setup fee for this type of campaign?

Or should I simply stick with AdSense?

    Thanks!

We are currently using our affiliate network simply for traffic because we're giving away all the $$... We don't anticipate doing that forever, but to answer your question - here is someone using affiliates for traffic only.

Re-reading your question, I'm not sure if you actually meant the affiliate program or the affiliate member... How exactly would the affiliate member get traffic? The only thing I can think of is that we sometimes advertise the sites of our higher traffic affiliates on our other sites (careful to avoid any reciprocal linking) as an incentive to stay around.... Not sure if that's the kind of thing you were thinking of...

The only third way I can think of where being an affiliate member would actually increase traffic is in a widget scenario where you are actually getting content on your site from the affiliate program. In this case, the extra content and key words might be spider bait.. I dunno.

I think what I am saying do you use Affiliate Programs to generate traffic. Meaning, do you pay other people to place your links on the site?

I think that most of the threads are for people who are placing the ads on their websites and collecting money from the Affiliate Programs. So, I am wondering about how to get involved on the other side of it...

Hope that makes sense. I don't think I am using the right terminology...

If you want to generate traffic using affiliates to your website, you must have your own products which you're willing to share your profits with them. (e.g. 50% commission sharing with your affiliates).

There are a lot of programs out there which helps you to automate the process of handling and paying out commissions like Clickbank.com, Paydotcom.com, Commission Junction (CJ.com)... etc.

You can check out their setup prices at their respective websites, it's just a one time fees and I considered it to be relatively low for a serious investment.

But it's difficult for me to tell you which one is the most suitable for you because I'll need to look at your website and products to determine.

If you want to get ratings for your websites, I suggest you manually contact various webmasters that have related or similar websites and ask them for a review exchange. I think if you have a blog it'll helps a lot because a blogger loves to help bloggers...

Just my two cents worth and hope it'll helps...
