I'm toying with the idea of adding a breadcrumb to the top of my website. I've done one page with and one page without to compare. Ignoring the increased ctr on the link unit, I just want you to judge it on a looks/functionality basis. With the breadcrumb: http://www.leopard-gecko.eu/care Without the breadcrumb: http://www.leopard-gecko.eu/
It actually looks better with a breadcrumb (i don't know what a breadcumb is, but noticing the differences I would say the bar stating where you are). Today's sites are built with more whitespace, which gives better readability on the site. It seems like cluttered without it, like content is too slapped (the right word, or am I going to recieve a lot of "lol"s) against eachother. If it was up to me, I would leave it, even if you didn't have the link unit above it. And if we didn't ignore the increased ctr, you wouldn't want to remove it, right? Just my 2 cents.
I like the breadcrumb. From my experience, it should not take away from your ctr on the link unit either. It does not do so in our directory, and we use breadcrumbs there.
it increases the ctr, rather than decreasing it - accidental clicks, more attention to that specific area etc...
Everything that improves usability is good in my book, and improving navigation is high on that list. I think you should go for it regardless of ctr.
Looks alright to me. At least I've learnt what a breadcrumb is! You spelt advertising wrong though (in the right hand sidebar)
I'm not too bothered about the ctr (although admittedly it was the suggested increase in ctr which made me consider adding it) I would much rather loose a few clicks and have a nicer looking more functional website. I'm still not sure whether I like it hehe. Thanks for the spelling correction by the way Garrett
