You should do this because if not Google will de-index the pages that has your affiliate links on them. Google doesn't like affiliate marketers nowadays as the claim to want to improve the search experience for its users. Definitely add nofollow.
thanks for your reply Cash. I was wondering if adding NoFollow can affect the affiliate link. Is there any such thing as not tampering with the exact code provided by the affiliate? Something similar to one that is with adsense- you do not mess with the code. Some of affiliate links on my site have been provided by GOogle affiliate program. While others by linkshare- certainly need to add Nofollow to those. What do you think about messing with the code issue?
I have a website in wordpress with a few affiliate links i need to change these to nofollow then. I will have to youtube how to do this..lol
You're most likely earning money when people buy the product/service promoted via the affiliate links, so nofollow is a good solution. It won't get good ole' google mad at you either
Thanks everyone, Nofollow added to affiliate links. Removed many of affiliate links though, were not performing at all
General the word press blog and sites are nofollow. It is very easy if you still want the links to be nofollow be assured of it. you just need to activate a nofollow plugin.
If you are using wordpress I would recommend checking out pretty link you can make all your affiliate links look like internal links they simply redirect to the affiliate site. You can say if you want them to be nofollow which I would recommend as well. It looks better, you'll get more clicks and as far as I can tell google doesn't mind
In all honesty I ignore dofollow and nofollow these days. Google has pretty much said a link is a link.
Where has google said that? The official google SEO starter guide mentions the use of Nofollow for combating spam
