I keep hearing PR's not what it used to be, and I also keep hearing Google's pissed at webmasters for buying & selling links to boost PR. Even though it's not that important anymore. So what do you think, should they just call it a day and retire the PR system, stop publishing PR data, and let us all get on with our lives without looking at that little green bar all day? Personally I'd miss that handy number. I just like PR too much to say goodbye, and it's an easy way to know how my sites rank versus the rest of the web. But I'm also lazy and short-sighted, so I could be wrong. In fact I probably am. What do you think?
PR is not going anywhere. If it does vanish, we will in time see a new standard we all follow. Hmm, maybe ill make one lol
i had come and idea with "sitepoint".we need better search relevancy, so why we had a search engine that display result only pages from domain that have a good relevancy keyword.only pages, not wikipedia or forum link, comment link whatsoever.
people will probably just by stuff according to traffic and stuff or backlinks from search engines or other sites, something will take its place, its inevitable
PR is a quick way to see website relevancy, if you see PR0, means either the website is new, or it has only few backlinks. Many times PR can give you a wrong opinion about the website. If you want to buy a link or a website, you will want to know other information than PR, but when you want to do a link exchange, or submitting articles to article directories, or submitting to directories, PR can give you a quick idea on the website, along with alexa rank.
G are havng great difficulty synchronizing DC's in a real time environment, would not surprise me if it was pulled very soon The dynamics and the data processed in real time virtually ensures that synchronization will not be possible Expect to see a new rating system replace this archaic process
That's the reason why it's not constantly updated. PR only measures quantity of incoming links, not the quality of the site which a lot of people confuse it with. It's good for a guide and maybe bragging rights, but apart from that it's not really that important
Yeah I wouldnt be suprised if it stopped being used, its already lost so much of its value in many ways. Most SEO guys say to not even look at PR or worry about it.
Well said. I've got sites with PR0 getting 10x traffic and revenues of well-ranked sites. And even when they get ranked I'm not sure it'll make much of a difference. Like I said, I'm still a fan of PR. But they'd probably do better to put their stock price in the toolbar
I think it doesn't matter if you have PR0 as long as you have better ranking in search engine and you have a lot of quality traffic.
If you have PR0, you don't rank well in the SERP or your site is very new. PageRank reflects the power of the incoming links, so it's also effect the SERP. It doesn't tell you which keywords the website rank good for, but that's the hole point. If you would have seperate PR for each keyword, Google would have a major problem removing spam and it would be much easier to find the quality of a compititor.
I wish PR to be replaced with something more up-to-date. atleast there should something in webmasters personal area(like sitemap) where the exact/actual PR or related stuff is reported. If something replaces PR it will increase the quest of learning what's new and it would be great...
PR means nothing, and I do love the fact that so many people are still fixated on it, makes my job of reaching high SERP(s) much easier.
I Think Google will not end PR, Otherwise they improved Algorithm of Page Rank. For Sorting the Link Buying issue...
They just need to remove all visual indication of PR, that's all . The algorithm is good, and we all use google and not MSN/ASK/Yahoo, and all is well. The only thing that must be removed is the visual PR indication, that's all.
