Should Google be afraid of the likes of Facebook, and Twitter? Can social networks add anything groundbreakingly beneficial to search engines?

haha- you haven't used google wave then. I think they are embracing it rather then compete and coming with new ideas to build off of.

also, things link twitter does provide information in real time and I feel the search engines agree adapted. this is all my .02c

Twitter is the most useless pointless thing that I have ever seen, Facebook is fairly good.

But what can they do to Google?

No, if anything becomes large and useful enough to google they buy it. :)

Google has no fears, apart from long power cuts, lol, as long as we can get online each day, they have nothing to fear.

I think Google must not fear this top social networks, because Google is the number 1 search engine and most of the internet users start surfing by using Google.
