IAC may be selling Ask.com because it is having trouble keeping up in the search world. http://fusednews.com/2009/10/28/ask-com-may-be-sold-or-consolidated/ http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/021043.html Should Google purchase Ask.com? Would it be a valuable investment?
If they are having trouble keeping up then it would be a bad idea for google to purchase it. I dont think thats googles style, they dont rescue struggling failing businesses, some people do specialise in that. Google seems to be more about spotting something powerful and saying yep we will buy that. It must be a great feeling to say to companies, heres so many hundred million, wanna sell? lol
They been around for long time now. I am sure Google could do something Microsoft is doing with Yahoo.
Let's just wait for some actions from Google. There might be some hidden potentials that google will see that we haven't seen from ask.com.
I think google should snap up ask.com if it's available at a reasonable price, since it complements google's existing business model and would enhance their search engine clout. The only caveat is whether ask.com has an existing profitable business model or not; usually if they're selling out it means that they're in dire straits financially. On the other hand, when google buys them it could cast its "halo" on ask.com and suddenly give it the Midas touch, just like with almost everything that Google does. Paul
Though ask.com has very less market share and scale as compared to google.. so its hard to say how much ask adds to google kitty..
I dont think google need ask . But if they have some innovative new idea with the domain name , i think they can do that .
Hello... Well its a nice 3 letter domain I know that here in the USA they have been advertising like Bing is, but not as much and yet nobody here has a need for a UK search engine in the USA.. (google, Yahoo, Bing, and others) To be honest... I think a good company for them to pair up with would be Baidu SE (china) being that google cant compete with them in china market .. laterz malcolm
Lol i was thinking the same thing... with a name like "ASK" what else could you do with it Maybe Yahoo/MSN should by them up then ... laterz M1
Nah, Google need not bother, but if MS would acquire it it could mean a threat to Google. As mentioned by others above, ask.com is indeed a nice domain name
