The Egyptians are currently maintaining and improving a huge barricade to keep the Gazan's out of Egypt. Egypt figures that it has enough problems with Muslim-on-Muslim violence, without inviting yet another group of Islamist fanatics into their country. But... Hamas has turned the beautiful Gaza Strip into a ghetto and the people of Gaza are suffering needlessly under their murderous regime. If someone (the U.S., Israel, the UN, the EU, private donors, churches, anyone) slipped a few billion dollars into the Egyptians pockets, they might start feeling the warmth of familial love for their Gazan brothers. Egypt could occupy Gaza and displace Hamas. They could annex Gaza and give the people of Gaza a life no worse than that of the average Egyptian. Still not great, but an improvement in many ways. Israel would get a neighbor with whom it shares a 30yr old peace treaty. Egypt would get a lot of prime real estate and significant international prestige, as well as a population that was comparatively well educated until just a few years ago. The Gazan's would get peace and a comparatively stable government. What do you think?
That could be a one of solutions of problem. Now we only should decide how much of US dollars will go to Egypot each year to maintain that solution.
The problem is, they would have to occupy it, not absorb it. I think the people of Egypt have come to enjoy their peaceful relationship with Israel, but adding the Hamas supporting Gazans would just create unrest in Egypt. Also, as moreplayers points out, who in the US really wants to pick up the tab for all that? I think bigger walls, better blockades, and unwavering support from the US is the answer. Israel's biggest problem right now is America.
I don't see that situation improving. You have Barack Obama on the left and Ron Paul on the right. The U.S. is a very unfriendly place for Israel and it seems to me that the situation is getting worse, not better. Frankly, I am starting to see the Islamist propaganda machine as unstoppable.
I have a hard time disagreeing with this, and that means the outcome will be war. Looking at the worldwide economy, it is like a ticking bomb right now. It changes the question to, when war comes to Israel, will the US honor its relationship? Ron Paul and the lefties aside, I think the answer is yes, even with Bo Bo in office.
I think you're optimistic regarding the amount of moral fortitude left in the Western psyche. But, I think the Israeli's realize this and are no longer including the U.S. in their defense planning.
I do not think that "we" are unfriendly to Israel....I think "He" is....hope "he " will go away......soon.... Before we are all lost......
The simple fact is that every Arab nation since 1948 has refused, been unwilling, and didn't want and don't want the Palestinians. The situation remains today. Hindsight suggests that if big money had been presented to an Arab nation back in 1948-1950 to house the Palestinians, maybe that would have changed things. It didn't occur. Since 1948 the extisting Arab national regimes have done the following: 1. Blame the hell out of Israel 2. Absolutely deny, fight, and do virtually everything they could do to keep the Palestinians out of their nations/ and separate from their people. So much for the "brotherhood" of the Muslim Arab nations.
Kuwait expelled 250,000 "Palestinians" in the early 90's. (Some estimates are as high as 400,000) Jordan has been revoking the Jordanian citizenship of Palestinians, rendering them stateless and unable to travel or work. This includes people born in Jordan.
Yep. While the Islamic Arabs speak of "brotherhood" with Palestinians not one of them wants or has ever wanted the Palestinians in their own land. How many of these Arab Muslim "brothers" are willing to say something like...."we abhor the conditions in Gaza...we would be happy to repatriot 10,000, 50,000, 100,000 of our 'brothers' " Yes....The answer is NONE of them. In fact none of them have been willing to do this for 60 years. Westerners have probably provided a hundred times, maybe a 1000 times more aid than the arab "brothers". I'd suggest if the Arab Muslim "brothers" didn't so hate and ignore the Palestinians this issue would have been peacefully resolved decades ago. BTW: I see how Egypt opened then immiadately shut its borders on Gazans after the blockade incident. The real truth is that Arab nations have treated the Palestinians like crap for 60 years!!!
Of course. Can you imagine what will taking in palestinians do to an arab country (or any country for that matter)?
Wow. Revoking citizenship of people born in the country? Sounds like an easy way to get rid of "undesirables". I guess we can refer to Palestine as the human garbage dump of middle eastern nations. One has to appreciate the deviousness of dumping your garbage indiscriminately and blaming someone else for the mess.
Its true. For 60 years the Arab nations have treated the Palestinians as diseased undesirables, generally trying to expel the Palestinians from whatever Arab nation they try and settle in. They treat them like sh!t. Then they all blame and attack Israel. Its the pathetic truth of the Islamic Muslim lands. They have oppressive backwards societies that generally oppress their people and restrict freedoms. Subject to those that have oil, the rest are impoverished backwards societies. On top of that they mouth off about the plight of the Palestinians but god forbid a Palestinian should try and settle in their nations and the Arab regimes want that Palestinian out of there ASAP. What the Arabs do is treat the Palestinians like crap, oppress their own people, maintain backwards oppressive regimes and then blame everything on Israel. The attacks on Israel are a way to keep their own populations from realizing how sick and oppressive their own nations are in reality. Its a very sick world.
