should broad/phrase/match be in the same adgroup?

There seems to be a small difference of opinion about this...putting either the same or different keywords of different match types in the same ad group.

Does that mess up the ever-important "tightness" of an adgroup? Any other depending factors?

As you say, there's a difference of opinion about this, about most things PPC actually. Mine is that mixing match types in a group makes no difference whatsoever.

    Let's keep score: Mix 1 Nomix 0

I don't think its a big issue, but if you do separate them, make sure to use negative matching, i.e. for the broad keyword, negative match the phrase keyword, and for the phrase keyword, negative match the exact. That way you can be sure your clicks are always properly matched.

You mean if I use the broad word, put in the same keyword as a negative but with quotes around it? And if I use the phrase, include the same as a negative but with brackets around it?
