    >>Backlinks should be related as closely as possible to your niche. For example if you have a website about hunting, having backlinks from websites related to honeymoons and wedding may get you penalized by search engines and your rankings drop.

You can't be penalized for that. It is not true. Backlinks from not related content are just less valuable.

With article marketing (the link building type) your links tend to end up on "related" pages... this is one of the reasons I think it's so effective.

No, not at all. Do you think all of facebook's backlinks come from the social networking niche? Absolutely not, they have backlinks from almost every niche in the internet. The important thing is that the Keyword/Anchor Text is almost always "social network". That's what's truly important in the long run.

I get what you're saying... but I have to say - I doubt many people link to Facebook.com with the anchor text "social network" :) It seems most "normal" people probably just link to it as "Facebook"

That doesn't help at all, it's actually misleading. Backlinks can never hurt you. Ever. Ok?

If they could, I'd just spam my competitor's link all over the internet and see him drop out of SERP, but it doesn't work that way so please stop spreading nonsense.

I agree...the more backlinks the better...it doesn't matter if they are relevant or not
It only helps if your anchor text is the keyword that you are targeting

    "relevancy is irrelevant"

backlink with same niche is good but if there is good offer like PR of your niche is lower then PR of other niche so it would be better to backlink

Everyone is right and everyone is wrong. The point is what is niche. Niche is not what your logically think is your niche. Niche is a site that contains, and shows on serp for the same keywords you are aiming to be !. So if you are a hotel in bali and want to be in serp for those two keyword, niche is whatever is hotel and whatever is bali, not only that, but also typos of hotel and bali.

Links have values to them. A high PR page with relevant niche information can give you points as high as 5.0000, a high PR non-relevant page will give you maybe 0.10 - 0.80. A page with no relevance and 0 PR will give you 0, and relevant page with no PR will get your close to 0 points too.
