should ASK.COM give up. they are at least 3 search engines more famous then them. google, yahoo, and msn. they got to a point where they PAY people to search. i dont know how seccuestful its gonna be, but seems like they just dont give up. does any of you guys use ASK.COM?
No they'll never give up. Think of how many people around the world are doing internet searches every day. If they get just 1% of those people they should be able to turn a profit. I personally rarely use ask.com, but I do like their features such as the related searches and the fact that they use frames to keep the search box on top. That would be like saying Jack-In-The-Box should give up just because they can't keep up with McDonalds. I am rooting for them to do well. They have evolved over the years and they still have a lot of potential. I read somewhere that they are changing their focus to target more women.
Well, I'm sure that your websites get nowhere near as much traffic as the majority of your competitors or you probably wouldn't waste your time on DP... but you aren't giving up. The reality is that as long as there is money involved, they will be in that business and I don't see the money going away anytime soon. I just wish more people would take more notice to about.com. I absolutely love the guide idea which was popular for a while about 10 years ago but has died of substantially since then.
LOL I have a website which is actually not to great but it gets a lot!! Of traffic from ask.com. I think they rank sites by the amount of outgoing links they have as opposed to incoming, looking on my site as a Hub. Thats why it ranks so well with them I think.
Its google only for me. However there will be people saying the same but for ASK. I think they should carry on as its good for google to have some competition to keep them going!
They are probably the 3rd best SE behind G & Y. Besides, MSN pays people to search too... http://search.live.com/cashback
I used to love ask Jeeves, but not everyone can spell Jeaves, or is it Jeavs, and clearly they thought the butler wasn’t a good marketing idea and tried to look more like google. And the poof, they're tiny
What the? Hell no, ask is a multi-million dollar corporation, They have an alexa rank of 83. Many people still use the search engine.
I use their search engine. it's not bad either for popular queries, but when it comes to more obscure queries than Google is better.
I don't think they (or most smaller search tools like Scour) should give up. If all the little fish were to give up, that would leave us with only three big fish in this pond of the internet (excuse the metaphor), and that isn't good for anyong.
Google will never have the monopoly. Trying to be a jack of all trades like they are they are bound to drop the ball at some point. And yahoo will never complete the deal with google. Nobody wants google to own anything and everything on the web
As long as Ak is making money they should continue. Who knows, maybe they will forgo the fancy stuff one day and concentrate on relevancy and quick crawling. Then they might actually gain marketshare.
