Should Apple exit the PC market?

I heard someone joking around about Apple exiting the PC market and focusing on Ipods, Itunes, Iphones, I{whatever gadget}etc. It would probably be a good business decision as they would focus on their strength instead of using resources where they historically haven't done well. I don't think they'd do it but it might serve them well.

    What do you think?

They should stop selling hardware and sell their OS so you can install it on any Intel machine.

I think.. ever since expanding their market to PC users (by allowing their products to be used on PC) was a good idea... more sale in their part. People are so PC dependant these days..

I think it would be awsome if they sold the Apple OS for Normal PC's ..I mean no viruses who can argue with that.

Nope .. that's for sure .. The PC market is very nice place for good companies like Apple and that's their only hope of getting really big. For now they were really limited with those RISC processors (which are the best for GFX designers) but have very small market share ~4-5% compared to the CISC processors - AMD, INTEL and etc.

They are going for the money .. and with more money they can fund better projects and improve Apple. I believe they are still going to keep their RISK processors and continue to re-develop and improve them ... so what's the buzz about?

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

If they sold it at a competitive price (which they tend not to do) then it could do well. If you could boot from a $99 disk, try it, and do a full install if you liked it, Apple could do well. Ubuntu is doing this to push Linux out to the general public.

Virus writers might finally take interest in Mac's if its market share was significant. :D

I guess you missed the announcement that Windows98 had a service release pack 2 come out. You are way out of date.

I almost believed the Mac propaganda until I sat in an office next to a Mac user and at least twice a week I'd hear "ugggh" and I yell out what's wrong and the design guy would say "my Mac crashed again" and I would reply "Mac's never crash". :D

I had upgraded to Win 2000 so most of the crashes were gone or would be limited to a single program.

yeah i have seen some news about it. The market of Apple is going Downward as they are not introducing new thing to public might be that is the reason.

well they i think they should start monitoring about the current market and should intro new gadgets and new things. Might get them from the dark.

I agree that they should enhance their existing hit products and make their OS available to PC's.
