Should all of us click ads?

I know it's against the TOS to click the ads in your own site. However, if I'm genuinely interested in an ad on another site, I'm sure it benefits both me and the publisher (and the advertiser as well) if I click on that ad.

So, if all of us start to geniunely view ads and click on those we are interested in (and even buy products/services if we find what we need), then everybody benefits in the long run.

    Do you agree?

Uh, no. If you want to use Adsense, then you go into it being aware that clicking your own ads for any reason is not acceptable. You can read the URL in the ad and type it in manually. Actions like this will ruin Adsense for all of us.

There are people who already do what you're suggesting. I'm talking about people who have no connection to the site whose ads they're clicking on, not those scam networks of "friends" that click on each others' ads.

If you have genuine interest in an ad, no problem in clicking it. You just have to be careful that you don't start overclicking any site's ads, or Google might invalidate all the clicks.

Then again, you can click my ads all you want.

If I were you I would delete this thread PDQ. If not you can expect to be red before morning.

I'm already red. I was asking an honest question - can we click on other sites' ads? If the answer is no, I've learned my lesson.

I click on other ads if I'm genuinely interested. Why the hell not?

I don't do it for the benefit of the webmaster. If the ad looks more relevant than the page I'm on, I'll click because I'm looking for specific information. That's not against the TOS.

Isn't that what the ads are there for?? I mean if we are talking about ad's on another site besides ours that we are interested in then click the damn thing..This post is kind of stupid if you ask me.

Yes if you are genuinely interested and maybe follow through with a purchase...otherwise if you are clicking for the "greater benefit of all publishers then NO.

Yes you can, on other sites when interested in them, just not your own site!

Of course you can click on the ads on other sites if you are interested in them! I do that too.

There was a discussion I was reading somewhere about clicking on people's ads as a way of rewarding the webmaster. I think the conclusion was that's a bad thing for advertisers, since the click probably won't convert, and it could be a bad thing for the webmaster if the person is overzealous with the clicks.

Maybe that's what adnewbie was getting at.

Thanks, torunforever, for putting in the kind words. I am now back to green. I had thought my post was blasphemously wrong! But still, I'm now quite averse to clicking ads. Not sure if others feel the same.

That could lead to smart pricing if they're clicking to reward webmasters.

    Overall, it hurts the "system"

Over clicking might also inflate the true value of the site if a few visitors make up 10% or so of the total revenues (on a forum for example) what happens when they leave? What if you buy this site and they leave after or stop clicking?

If you are interested then it's fine...but if you are not, that's a whole different story.

    alang, let me paraphrase:

If I sell PDAs, should I be an avid PDA user myself? If I publish a magazine, do I read ads in other magazines? If I sell insurance, can I insure myself?

Suppose that I don't look at online ads now. If I'm an Adsense publisher, should I not believe in ads and start looking at ads?

I'm asking this because I get a feeling that it's wrong for Adsense publishers to even look at ads. If even Adsense publishers don't view ads, isn't it detrimental? Or is it better for the entire system?

After all this while, I've developed a reflex for not clicking any ad on any site! Anyone else with such aversion?
