I'm taking over SEO for a small business and they recently changed their url I found and the old web url now simply says visit us at (new site location). Should I recommend that they get an automatic redirect to go straight to the site? Also, their company's name is not the new url, it's the old one which they switched from. What's everyone's take on this?
Put a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new URL and the backlinks / PR / etc will pass through to the new URL helping with your SEO. No real need to have a "we've moved, visit us at..." page these days.
the we've moved page has absolutely no help from google!! use as the others suggested, 301 redirect. double check all the search results that no other internal pages on that site are being ranked and no longer there, if they are, set up 301 from them pages too!
