Is it a good idea to have a registration for a directory? What you guys say about it? please post your views!
I hate it... It takes too much time to register an account and then submit your site. I'm pretty sure most people would agree with me on this one
Make it not. Because if I must save all account detail for each directory submit its bad. If I can change my own link or listening then I can fake and to chead your user. If you think you check all changed listening is better make a form and if any webmaster want to change her listening can submit it to you. It's better for webmaster, for you, too. You dont lose webmasters. Mike
If someone really needs to edit their link they'd contact you. Put a contact form instead of registration
Well you guys are rite.. Now I have this script and I like it but now the problem being is i dont know how to bypass the login thing on it... its one from build2go
i hate directories in which i have to register first before submitting - especially the ones with email verification. a link is a link - accept it or reject it... why bother forcing people to register?
alright I agree with you guys... Is there any other good directory script apart form PHPLD.. Looking for cheap one!
Well to be frank i do not like the sites/directories which have a login/registration condition cause it just kills time, and who would ever want to change their site info, plus its faster to just contact the admin owner and get all sites edited like i do if i make a bobo.
No need! Why do it? For tracking keywords etc?? Surely your stats counter can do all of this. It would just peeve me to tears IMO!
Why is it bad? Its part of doing business!!!!!!!!! Let me guess the software you are using doesn't support it! Get them to confirm a registration email then post the listing!! If you change your lisitng later, thats fine ... especially if you paid for it.
the basic idea is that if you do require a login to submit a link there will be people that just won't do it(exept when you are well known).so you will loose
I won't register just to browse a website or directory. If I am going to submit, I will rarely register. It just depends on my mood for that day. I don't mind clicking a verification link AFTER I fill out the registration info and even that I won't always complete.
You don't need to require them to login to submit a link if you build the reg form and submit form as one. I do require everyone to register prior to submitting and you can wean out a lot of the garbage, not all but a lot. The only thing you are going to lose is most of the garbage links. What you are going to gain is quality submissions and repeat visitors. As your directory grows and you email them with new categories, they will appreciate it and more likely to submit additional sites - and probably pay for it. If you build a quality directory, you will make more money with paid subscriptions than with adsense. When I go to a directory it takes me less than 30 seconds to determine if it is a viable directory or just another made for adsense directory. The better quality your directory is the more and more quality listing you will get. Lets face it, if you are really interested in the number of listings or padding your listings count, you can always just extract dmoz info and place it on your directory and get your $5-$10 per day in adsense if you are lucky.
Mine is reg-up like that. unfortunantly not all of them know about the features. I don't like to register either, but i'll make an exception on mine because of the idea that they can edit it if they wish or submit another link or search for the links they have submitted by searching their email address, all of the links will be index on search by email of whatever, i think it's cool that i turn this features on. Imagine as a user and you have submited some sites but forgot which directory you placed it to or where the directory owner moved it to. Search features.
