As the title says I have a short question about the domain age. I just bought a new domain and I see something that I don't know how to interpret. As you can see from this image SEO for Firefox extension shows me that the domain age is 04-2004 according to Archive.org, that means that someone has the domain before but didn't renew it. Now the domain is in my possession and I would like to know what is the real ago of the website ?
it means that it was first registered by someone April 2004, so it's 3 Years and 3 Months old, I think....
Some search engines will tell you how many times the domain ownership or IP has changed since the domain was first registered so you can have an idea what the turnover rate is like.
At betterwhois.com they display Creation Date: 15-nov-2006, but I want to know if the Archive.org info is still valuable or not if I would like to sell the domain.
Archive.org will tell you when it was a website, or had content on it. If it was dropped and re registered, then whois will tell you when it was registered last. Is the archive stat valuable? It depends on the buyer, and why they are buying. I think what the domain is now is more important, and if there is a history to why it was dropped, like was it blacklisted, banned, or used for spamming, fishing, or anything like that. If its a great domain, you should insure that you keep it consistent from here on out. If it's an excellent domain, none of that matters because the market is grasping at straws for premium domains because there aren't many left anymore.
archive.org is by far the best way to find out how old the domain is and what it may have been used for in the past. http://web.archive.org/web/*/www.mazoo.co.uk The above is an example for an art site i own
yes, just run a WHOIS on it (i use whois.net) as whois.sc is slow and doesnt load for me half the time, any quick whois tools for firefox (click button, type domain)
