Every word dilutes the value of the title, so it is better to concentrate on one or two keywords and keep it short. Leave the sites name out of the title.

I read that titles should be less than 10 words. I usually try to optimize for 2 keyphrases so I try to get them both in the title tag. Also you would only need your Domain name in the title if you were working on branding.

Keep it as short as possible and as targeted as possible. Make sure it accurately describes the site. If you add the site name put it at the back but if it is long as it sounds leave it out as the title will seem spammy and any value it might have had would be greatly dis-credited.

Not too long is good, and put the most important keywords in the title also. As above said, title shall be exactly an one sentence abstract of your content.

That's not true. Google gives value to up to ~60 characters of your Title. The site name may be important to keep in the title for branding purposes.

Didn't say google doesn't give value to more than two keywords, but if you are trying to rank well for "blue widgets" - adding additional keywords is going to dilute the value they give to "blue widgets". Trying to rank for a bunch of competitive keywords on a single page will get you a site that doesn't rank for any of them.

Common SEO mistake is leaving the sites name for "branding purposes". How many times have you ignored the url, not bookmarked a site, but remembered the site based on the title of the page? Regardless, the question was about SEO, not branding.

The best title is one that suits the content of the page regardless of the length of the title. If you find that your title is too long, then you are trying to squeeze everything into a page, try to break it out to separate pages :)

Its true. The more words in the title the less importance each gets. Repetitions, a bunch of spam keywords can also have negative effects on your serps.

Try and keep your title short and to the point by including your most important keywords in it. Although the Title Tag should preferably be around 60 characters in length, including spaces and punctuation, you should ensure it will be display properly in the widest array of SERPs, menus, etc.

Going for a short keyword rich title used to be the best technique but now google does not place as much weight on the title as they used to (msn still does tho). I would go for a title which persuades users to click on your link in the SERPs rather than one or two keywords.

Not too long...put important keywords on your title but be sure that it's relevant on your page and it'll not look spamming...that will look bad...:)

    This is the main thing.
Then make sure the 3 or 4 most important keywords are in there and that the whole thing reads like something a human might be interested in.
