One word keywords are usually very hard to rank for, so better to go for 2 word combinations and long tail ones.
I suggest you go for long-tailed ones. They have a great chance to get you more keywords that are low competitive than short-tailed which mostly high competitive (unless a new product or trend launched).
Truthfully, it's easier to rank for long tail keyword phrases instead of just one keyword. I start out looking for those phrases that are at least 3 words long. But the kicker is in making sure they are being searched a decent amount - globally - 9at least 10,000 searches in my opinion) and that other people are making money using those keywords.
First target lengthy keywords because they have less competition , when you ranked on these keywords than start targeting short keywords, it will easy for you to rank on them after ranking on long keywords.
start from long tail keyword related to your main keyword and after getting recognition for those start narrowing shorter and shorter. This way create a pyramid where longer keyword phrases at the bottom and shorter at the top most.
You can do both... You can start with long tail keywords to get some initial trafic. Pluse buy it will help you rank for your main short keywords in the future... Additionally it will also give you more traffic since you are ranking for more terms. You'll start to get traffic from terms you've never even thought of. Then once you've build up some success and steam from ranking from a few long tailed keywords, You can try to rank for more competitive or 'short keywords' (aka broad keywords) as you put it... P.S. You have a better chance of converting with many different search terms as opposed to just one... Hope this helps...
it depends...if u need more visitor and more business u have to focus on short keywords and its really tough and time taking...but for long term keyword its easier much...so it depends upon u...mostly people target long first when they establish once with that they focus on short...
I would suggest, go for long tailed keyword first. Coz they are less competitive. So it is quite easy to rank higher with these KW. Onece you achieve your target (maybe top rank in Big G). Then go for short tailed KW. At the end of the strategy you should go for one word keyword. Normally they have very very high competition.
I don't know what any of you guys are talking about. When you go to the google keyword tool there isn't any pattern as far as whether or not long tail or short tail has more competition. It boils down to "HOW MUCH COMPETITION DOES A KEYWORD HAVE." This has nothing to do with longtail or shorttail. Just go look up the keyword confidence for god sakes. It has 1 million global monthly searches and is listed at extremely low competition on google. It all boils down to conversion rate. I assume 1 percent. I don't give a damn about anything but results. Therefore, what should matter to you is (traffic_count * conversion_rate) Focusing on long tail seems like the dumbest thing in the world if the traffic is really low, which a lot of cases it is, and I don't care about the competition when there are only 100 monthly searches globally. The trick is to choose a keyword that targets your customers well, or else you will get a much lower conversion rate.
Some people go after long keywords first like: blue paper widgets and also paper widgets. You should not be building all your anchor text for just one keyword anyways. There needs to be variation. It really depends on your page's content and purpose and without seeing it, it is pretty much a guess.
I agree with choosing the longtail keywords. I think that they have less competition, and I believe that people are likely to use longer keywords in searches.
Google Instant is making shorter keywords more searched. You can use this in two ways… 1. Try to play where everybody else is (shorter keywords) or 2. stick to long tail niche keywords and cross your fingers that searchers will enter the whole phrase before clicking a Google Instant Link.
I will suggest you to focus on both short and long tailed keywords.Long tailed keywords are less competitive and less easier to get your target, while short keywords are tough to achieve your target unless there is an efficient S.E.O. behind it.Long tailed are more probably searched by basic user but on professional level it comes to short keywords.
Go for longer keywords. The longer the keyword phrases are the more likely someone will search for part of it on the search engines.
Targeting keyword phrases(long tail) is a much better idea than trying to target individual words(short keywrds). Also see the Competition & Local search while targeting keywords.
you can use long tail keyword for your website. With because long tail keywords you can get ranking easily in SERP because of less competition.
