    Hard to say. I am making niche ad general price compare sites (from 1.000.000 to 50.000.000 products) and to reach performance and some other things I think it would be hard on magento, it better to make own platform/framewrok for this task...

    Magento is too heavy and complex and it is not specially designed for shopping comparison though I think you can do it with Magento but some customizations may require. Try something more simple or even free and pay for custom works to meet your requirements.
