With paypal's free shopping cart you can send them straight to pay on their server. Oh ya and they'll handle your merchant accounting needs too!
I always like Zen Cart. It is a bit archaic code wise but has a lot of plugins. It isn't ideal but don't ever be tempted by the flashiness of Magento - its a pig to work with! If you want a hosted solution I recommedn Shopify.com
The cart you need depends on what you're trying to sell and the features you need. If you have just a handful of physical products to sell, or are selling affiliate products, you could get away with using WordPress and an ecommerce plugin. If you're wanting to sell digital products (needing download security) or several physical products requiring inventory management, you might try a more robust ecommerce script like Zen Cart or Cube Cart.

In my experience, Zen Cart has been easier to use than OSCommerce. That said, CubeCart is even easier.
cubecart is also excellent with free or newer paid versions with payment gateways built in and many third party mods available

Magento's really difficult if you're not an experienced programmer. It's loaded with bugs and a single bug could take up much of your time and money. In the end, sellers pay programmers more than what they earn from selling stuff on Magento. Tread with caution.

Been using zen cart for 4 years. Its better than oscommerce and i switch from that. It can be easy to use after a while and recently i customize my own template.
