Hi, I've had an ecommerce for 5 years. I've gone through many carts, I think 5.
I have just switched again.
First, it depends on what you are using it for. Make a list of everything you need in a shopping cart. I didn't do this in the beginning and that is the reason I switched for the first time.
For example, I needed a gift registry. I signed up with GOEcart because they were really secure. Well, they didn't have a gift registry and I couldn't add any third party software due to security risks.
When you're looking at hosted shopping carts that you aren't buying the box version, many of them won't allow third party software.
The free shopping carts are great because they are simple. I am now shifting to OScommerce. This site has been customized and I am very happy with it so far. Simple, without the bells and whistles of BigCommerce that I'm switching from. And I'm leaving them for several reasons.

Check out osCommerce and Magneto.

osCommerce has the most of add-ons. Magneto is very fresh and very promising new generation of shopping cart software.

 

Hi, if you desire to do it free use osCommerce or ZenCart.
I personally use Shopfactory by a lot of years, at least 5.
I never had a problem and my site is first on search engines for a lot of keywords, but the bad side it's that is costly.

Hi The Restorer, what is your level of technical expertise? There are many free and paid versions of shopping cart software out there, but some will be easier to use than others. The open source carts are powerful and feature-rich, but they take some time to get to know. Just ensure they have a strong 'community' so you can ask others for help if running into configuration problems.
OpenCart, OSCommerce, ZendCart, Prestashop are many available; give 'em a try.

I suggest you to go on with Magento which is best shopping cart Cms it is in top level due to its flexibility and feature of high level security

 

Right now in paying for the service of my cart (Shopping Cart Elite) but then if you opted for open stores both Magento and Zen are on the top.

Magento isn't secure because it is open source. If you read through community forum several people have had their sites hacked.
