I need shopping cart software that will:

    - generate static html pages that can be updated from a data feed at anytime

    - be highly scalable and customizable

    - support cross-sell functionality

    - be seo friendly

any advice? I plan to have about 500 products.

oscommerce http://www.oscommerce.com/ is a great open source shopping cart. supports cross selling, php-based. You could get into the sources to perhaps do what it is you want with the feed updating.

osCommerce will do all the above.

For the datafeed functionality install the EasyPopulate Contribution
    SEO friendly ?

Install the X-sell contribution there are two different contributions

Well it's not XHTML complaint but I have a handful of oscommerce cart ranked in the top ten for reasonable competitive phrases so it's not impossible to work with

Static HTML pages - some have done this. It is not the default. It has capability to cache frequently used portions of the code or you can install a cache for the whole site. You can force htaccess using mod-rewrite or better method would be to copy the site to disk and upload it to html. 500 products is no problem. Depends on the traffic on your server and other server load considerations.

I'm not sure about Oscommerce, I heard they have many bugs which will only build a decent site if you are a developer, any ideas?

Can anyone tell me what shopping cart these two websites are using?
    davismicro.com and chinanewfashion.com

We're currently using x-cart but are looking into Magento and other solutions. We're trying to find out what others are using.

I somehow thought that davismicro.com is using xt:Commerce.

I don't know what they are using for sure, but it looks like it may be a hybrid of scsystem.com shopping cart system.
