Get Alexa Booster, good (long) list of proxys, fiew connections and if you do not have anything else to do sites will be in top 200k-300k in fiew hours. Which means that site is still in mud. Not deep but still.


But there is no chance to manipulate to be in top 20k, and that means something.

I respect Alexa ranking.

 

I only trust Alexa's top 1000 because the software maker of that alexa toolbar has manipulated up to 2,300 rank. But the top 1000 are the sites which i know get the most traffic..

Agree completely! Also, they don't seem to count repeat clicks from the same IP per x hours, unlike earlier.

Alexa gives a fair idea of a website's traffic and I respect alexa too.

 

I think Alexa rank is for their own purpose only and they may be collecting data for their any future product.

 

I tend to think top 10,000 Alexa ratings have some value, but I've honestly never tried to fake or manipulate the Alexa rating so I'm not sure how accurate my assumption is.

I decided the easiest way to find out would be to set up a brand new page on a brand new domain and see how easy it is to tweak. I don't think it's possible to "fake" your way into the top 5,000 - but I could be wrong. I'm going to try and do it using every method I can think of.

Alexa has its faults but I don't think enough people take it serious enough for people to spend a lot of time/money trying to fake it. The fact that fakerank can't produce a low number for itself must mean something.

All I can say that over the last 6 months, Alexa has been dead on in matching the ups and downs of traffic on my main site.

 

I've seen the same. Not dead on, but pretty close in terms of measuring the peaks and valleys.

It should be fun seeing how low I can get my worthless test page by the end of the year

 

Any comments on how Alexa Test is going so far? I hit it a couple times a day from various IPs with IE/Alexa Toolbar. How about everyone else?

so long as advertisers look at alexa, and they do, then you cant look at it as pure crap even if it is..

How can fakealexa or alexaboost work, all they do is send impressions to a page with proxys. Alexa bases the traffic people with the toolbar installed so its impossible that they work. The only cheat alexa program i know that works is similiar to a trafficswarm set up because all the viewers have toolbar installed.
The only thing worth using the fakealexa crap for is sending impressions to boost your adsense or advertisers on your sites. And www.i-faker.com is the best for that as it runs of your desktop rather than your server.

I bought Alexa TOP 10 000 list of website about one year ago and researched it very carefully. I can say that it is trustworthy in general. Of course, it is not ideal there are some domains that use spyware and have their Alexa below 500. But about 97 % of websites are very famous and respectful. So like other members say you can consider this rating when you analyze website but only if they have the rank below 10 000. For example our site is currently 621. And it receives about 40 000 unique visitors daily. Pretty sure that sites with the rank 10 receive 50-60 times more traffic.

 

Many sites with 100,000+ uniqes a day with an alexa rank under 10,000. Depends on your sites theme. A webmaster site should have a high alexa because webmasters would have the toolbar installed. An entertainment site like one of mine with an average of 85,000 uniques a day has an alexa of only 12,000's.
