Shifting Wordpress to a New host

    Need some technical guidance guys..

    I am trying to move one of my wordpress blogs to a new hosting. I have a full backup of the site taken from Cpanel. However after installing wordpress on the new hosting, and uploading the backup in the new cpanel, nothing seems to change. I mean, my old posts, settings and comments are not coming up and i just see the "Hello World" post that normally comes up on a new wprdpress installation.

    Can anyone guide me on how to get back my wordpress blog with this backup that i took from cpanel. I repeat, its a "full backup".

    Thanks.

    with wordpress you need to back up the database, the files, and download an xml document...install a new wordpress into the new site, re-upload the files into the new host, re-create the database, upload the xml...

    did you miss a step?

    The easy solution is some hosts will move everything over for you...just ask them.

    If it's a full backup, upload it to your root directory via FTP then contact your new host (on shared, reseller, etc) and ask him/her to import it for you.

    Actually, my previous host was crap and that hosting is gone so i couldn't take a mysql database or xml backup. However, I took a full backup a few days back by going into my :

    Cpanel--->Backups--->generate a full backup

    its a .tar.gz file.

    @ Delux don: DB config details are obviously different in the new wordpress installation..since its a new host.

    Only a cpanel admin, root or whatever it's called can restore the backup so just send a ticket saying you want your backup blahblahblah.tar.gz restored.
