I'm not sure of the direct implications of the ranking, but you shouldn't lose any search hits. All you really need to do is change the info in wordpress so that it directs your index to the right place and you'll also want to redirect any wordpress.com/blog traffic to wordpress.com

You can do it fairly easily through a 301 redirect in you .htaccess

If you do a quick search here on dp, you should find several ways to accomplish it. All depends on how much you know about .htaccess and how much you want to do.

I could handle this for you professionally for $20.00... ;) I've been handling and dealing with WordPress for over a year now, going to be 2 years now in October.. I used to be a Moderator on the WP.org support forums, I've done over 100+ installs for people already and starting my own service site soon. weinstallwp.com

Of course though, going to charge $49.95 per installation. However, since you're already installed, I lowered the cost of doing this different job. ;) It's up to you though... Let me know what you want to do okay? :)

why don't you just redirect the root domain to the folder?

I explained to "them" the OP and his friend, the one that's actually needing the help on Yahoo Messenger about it. ;) :)

spencerpassmore (5/18/2007 3:01:47 AM): 1) Login to the blog admin
spencerpassmore (5/18/2007 3:01:56 AM): 2) Go to options general
spencerpassmore (5/18/2007 3:02:08 AM): 3) Change the blog urls from domain.com/blog to just domain.com and hit update button
    spencerpassmore (5/18/2007 3:02:20 AM): 4) you'll get a 404
    spencerpassmore (5/18/2007 3:02:28 AM): 5) don't worry about that
spencerpassmore (5/18/2007 3:02:38 AM): 6) Go into the FTP directory and move files up from blog/ folder to domain root
