i was wondering if is there one graphic format (gif, tiff, etc') that is sharpest that all the others at a given resolution?

I preffer PNG - You don't loose quality, you keep the file small and you have transparency

    :) That was cool indeed.

The problem is that the question
    is kinda lame.

It depends on what the image will be used

PNG is lossless, like Tiff and Bitmap, but out of those three, it's the smallest file size, and it was created for the web so it works in web browsers, where tiff does not.

You can't have higher quality than lossless. and yes, check wikipedia for information about file formats - they were all created for a reason and all do different things for different reasons.

Agree, I prefer PNG as well over all other formats. Quality is best and file size is quite small. This format doesn't work for ALL situations, so you need to know when to use this formats as well... so in short it depends on your situation.

It depends on what you're using the image for...for print, TIFF all the way, and for web, PNG is great.

Any graphic in a vector format - .eps, .ai, etc. - will always be sharpest at any given resolution (because the resolution is infinite (or there is no resolution, depending on how you look at it)). But yes, the question needs a lot more detail.

Here's an article on Vector vs. Bitmap resolution that may or may not be helpful: http://www.freerangestock.com/understanding/vector_bitmap/Part1_Bitmap.html
