i only spend money on tools that will make the job easier and faster, not on the gurus latest products and formulas. i subscribe to a twitter automation service, schedule my wordpress blog posts, use an all-in-one social bookmarking tool, a tool that ups my youtube video view count, outsource articles or spin new ones from content already on the web, etc. just spend money where it counts instead of buying "Mr. Famous Internet Marketer's Quick Guide to Endless Traffic"
My main secret is not really a secret, but a well-known fact. But I think it's the most important thing to remember when you create a website: Content + SEO = traffic. And, of course, traffic = money. And also... Don't be afraid to "jump right in" to your latest idea. I talk with lots of people who spend months and even years "thinking about" or "learning about" or "planning" their websites that they never get anything don.e If you have a fresh idea - start it TODAY. It doesn't cost much to start up a new site, so you'll have little to lose.
Even with your secret out, most people wont do the work (I am guilty on some of my websites). This is a good one. My rule is that done do something that is repetitive outsource it, dont have your outsource person do something that can be me automated my a computer program Traffic is key, I am right now working on conversion. I got a website that generate 2500 to 3000 visitors a day, but have tweak the conversion and that made a HUGE difference on it. Agree with Mukul. It may not sound like much, but if you move the needle on your conversion rate from 1% to 1.3%, that's a 30% increase in sales with no extra overhead.

The biggest secret for Internet Marketing of any kind is simple. Just do it. There are tons of people that do research, plan things, and find other reasons to put off Internet Marketing. If you want to be part of the 5% that makes a living through Internet Marketing, you have to jump right in and do the work. Otherwise, your just another dreamer on the sidelines.
