I am not sure whether it is the right place to post.. MOD.. if this is wrong, then move it to correct place. Actually i have heard that people prefer reseller hosting on shared hosting( with multiple domains) Whats the reason for that (except reselling ) ??
The reasons for which i take reselling hosting is, i can create individual hosting account for each of my site , rather than in the case of shared hosting we cannot. due to this when we sell our website we can directly give our hosting account I think the IP's are same in both type of account until and unless you take dedicated IP's.
Thanks for the info Amit. But if i dont have the plan for selling my site, In that case will it better to use shared hosting with multiple domain because it is cheaper??
yes, then you can take shared hosting. but nowadays we get reseller hosting's for 6$/month where you also get 1.5GB space and 15GB Bandwidth
Well I get 20 Gb space and 1000Gb bandwith for 8 bucks... I cant survive with that... my one site uses 2gb a day!
Damn! did you read my post clearly? i was talking about reseller hosting and you gave details about shared hosting there are many many better hosts than dreamhost too in the shared hosting category
Well I am just wondering that what will you resell from 1.5gb space and 15gb bandwith I havent found one yet but if you have please share...
i feel it would totally depend on the requirement at times shared hosting with single domain is better then buying resellers. 20 Gb space and 1000Gb bandwith for 8 bucks is too cheap im not sure hows it affordable to the seller whos givin at this price.
Personally, I use reseller hosting not to resell, but for my own sites. I used to have two or three of my own sites on numerous shared accounts, although it is just so much easier to get a reseller account, make one payment a month, have all your websites on it and have full control. I also used to run a hosting business through a reseller account and that actually turned out pretty well and sold off for a decent price.
i use a reseller account , altough i don't really resell but it's better because you can create individual account for every domain . Better management of your site's
Depend on the number of domains you own. I have more than dozens of domain names hosted on two reseller accounts where is not allowed oversell, and for the last two month some domains ran out bandwith with others not consuming that much. In addition, the more domains I have, the more hard to manage individually. I have also a server but that is only for a few of them but for development purposes so is not good idea for me hosted my domains on my server. I have another shared accounts with unlimited domain hosting but using cpanel, which brings again the problem of sorting the domains via cpanel, which is time consuming. My solution came up a few days after one of my hostings (which does not use cpanel) gave us the opportunity to host unlimited domains instead of 25. The hosting is www.servage.net, they offer 75,000 MB webspace and 1,1000 MB bandwith, unlimited features, free domain for life, php5 support, etc. for only $7.50 a month. I'm hosted there since one year ago and I have never have troubles with them as many people to mislead believing in the oversell myth... the only problem I had was the 25 domains limit, but they just removed such limitation, being quite easy manage all domains individually from a single access, unless you create individual ftp's for each one, which is also possible If you signup and use my coupon CUST12535 I will appreaciate it, and you will get 5,000 MB extra webspace, this is a total of 80,000 MB so check the site out and do no hesitate to ask any concern about
Reseller hosting generally tends to not be oversold like nearly all shared hosting is. With reseller hosting, you are guaranteed that you will be able to use the resources offerred (in nearly all cases) By being able to seperate your sites into their own CPanel, under the reseller account you are better isolating your sites which is a great idea. If you put all your sites on a single shared hosting account, and one of your sites is hacked, then potentially all of your sites are hacked. If you go reseller, you would only have 1 account hacked and not all of them. This is a real possibility with all the vuneribilities in software if you don't keep it up to date (suvh as forum and CMS software). I like to use reseller simply becasue not all sites are equal. I haves some sites that only need 2-5meg of disk space and very little b/w each month, and other sites that need Gig's of disk and 100's Gig Data - I can divide up the reseller space as I need it - allocate the disk/BW as required for eah site.
I have about 20 different domains (not all live sites yet, but they're being dealt with), and I think 6 or 7 of them are live. I use Hostgator, b/c they let you use as many add-on domains as you want. I haven't had any problem with it, love the company, and probably wouldn't change. But is there a significant downside to add-on domains that I should know about that might make a reseller account a better choice in the future? Jenn
I also have multiple accounts on one shared hosting account (dreamhost) and I think RRWH summed up why it is a good idea to keep your sites separated. Never really thought about if one site got attacked, which is easy with the scriptkidds running around, but the hosting was so cheap I could’nt passes it up ($22 for a year with coupon). Unlimited domains/sub domains, terabyte of bandwidth (which increases the longer you are with them), and as long as I have been there they have had pretty good up-time. Little bit of overkill for me but it was cheap.
