I have a few sites on my blue host shared server. 1 small car forum that no one ever posts on but gets traffic and 2 other car sites. I can't even get http://www.performancetrader.net to run at a decent speed with 4 basic plugins. Of course when I deactivate them the blog runs at ok speed. All in one SEO Collapsing Categories phpBay Pro Plugin for Wordpress Search-2-Post with phpBay I have sites on three other shared servers. Some of the wordpress blogs are fast, some aren't. I think it's time to upgrade to dedicated server. I'm looking for C panel, backup, good phone support, and pretty fast speed. Looking to spend around $100 month. What are my options? I don't want to buy from an unreliable company that advertises their prices on here, want a decent company known nation wide, I'm in the US.
You can try a VPS with cPanel then upgrade as you need more resources. It doesn't sound like you need a dedicated server just yet.
I think you're right, I'm just not very familiar with VPS and Dedicated servers. Bluehost and hostmonster just aren't doing it for me anymore. How many sites can your run on VPS? I have about 19, three of them are unactive forums. I actually think wordpress uses up more resources than vbulletin forum. Look at mustangtech.org then look at performancetrader.net. Both of those sites are on the same shared server and there's only 4 sites on that shared server. Pretty disappointing.
It depends what kind of volume those sites are getting. If your not familiar with a VPS/Dedicated server, it's recommend you get a fully managed VPS. If you need cPanel the bare minimum we recommend is 512RAM, then as you use more resources just keep on upgrading.
The problem is all in one seo plugin which is resource hungry. hence some hosts have banned it. I am sure VPS will be able to handle that. Just go with photonVPS. I am using it and they are very helpful.
Don't like the fact that they charge for cpanel, I already searched and there are a lot of other hosts beating their prices and features.
If it comes with CPanel you are being charged for it. Least they give you the choice. I have 0 interest if you go with photonVPS or not. Their prices look reasonable. Customer service and uptime are the bigger factors IMO.
after looking more into prices you are right. I know 24/7support is very important, who do I call if I need help. Looks like all photon VPS has is ticket support.
Can you name the ones who beat them? I may give them a try though I'll never move from photonvps for their support.
So their support is good? What kind of processors are they using? How fast are their VPS? Downtime? Will the move my files? $35.95 looks like the package might pickup, is that memory standard or burstable. Their stats do look impressive, just don't like not having a phone number to call. But if their ticket support is quick, might go with them. hostican.com looks like a pretty good company to go with.
You can view this thread, I believe it answers most of your questions: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1456502
Is Xen faster than OpenVZ, I'm looking for a fast speed, I'm so tired of slow websites? Thinking about going with BEAM3 or WARP3
Different types of virtualization. Xen the resources are dedicated, so what you order is allocated to you. OpenVZ is shared and allows burstable RAM, which mean if there is free RAM on the node that other VPS are not using, you can temporarily use that RAM.
I think tou may buy a dedicate server from OVH.COM or Kimsufi.it You can have this server http://www.ovh.it/prodotti/eg_ssd.xml Is 8Core Intel Xeon W3520, 12GB RAM, 2x80GB SSD, 1Gbps internet connection. I can configure the server for you if you don't want to install yourself..
I prefer ServerPronto. You can get close to that price with 30 minutes per month of voice technical support. Although I just use their trouble tickets, they are very responsive as well. Plus their prices start at $29.99. Fred
For high performance you may use OVH Server.. ServerPronto is good for support for managed server. But there are not a good server, manage a server is easey if you learn.
You may also just want to try the wp super cache plugin, this will create static files behind the scenes for your wordpress site, which should make it muuuuuch faster.
