if a host offers ffmpeg with a shared account, it's going to be... bluntly... crap VPS servers with ffmpeg would be a better option, but not always bullet proof only real way to guarentee a good server with ffmpeg that isn't going to dos itself because of too many people using ffmpeg is dedicated

I don't think you can use ffmpeg with shared hosting plans. ffmpeg is CPU-intensive even for VPS, anyway, you can compare the features and price of most-used VPS and dedicated servers at http://HostingMatrix.org
